Overview of the event

Smart contracts are a potentially highly transformational technology currently developing on top of blockchain technologies i.e. self-enforcing agreements in the form of executable programs that are deployed to and run on top of (specialised) blockchains. Decentralized applications (dApps) are digital applications or programs that exist and run on a blockchain or P2P network of computers instead of a single computer, and are outside the purview and control of a single authority.

The conference aims to open critical discussions on the next generation of dapps and provide a learning opportunity facilitating discussions around different governance mechanisms, usability and security of self-sovereign authentication models, next steps in the development of decentralized exchanges, as well as recent developments and the way forward for different scaling solutions.

Smart Contract and DApps - Blockchain 2.0 Summit, Bangalore
X Topic Abstract

Ethereum is the second most valued cryptocurrency with market cap of over $29 billion and daily average trading volume of over $1.3 billion. It enables us to create smart contracts that can run and function in a decentralized and trustless manner. With smart contracts, security consciousness is extremely important as they deal with high-value digital assets. Smart contract programming requires a different engineering mindset compared to developing web or mobile applications. This talk will cover the smart contract security mindset, known vulnerabilities and discuss security best practices and tooling as they pertain to smart contract development in Ethereum.

X Topic Abstract

Decentralized exchanges are the way forward to democratizing trading, reinforcing the zeitgeist, that of building "trust less" economies.

Be it reducing risks, ensuring quality or securing trading, decentralized exchanges hold the key to an interesting future.

But the road ahead is unpaved and plenty remains to be done before decentralized exchanges become the de-facto standard for trading.

X Topic Abstract

We believe that decentralized computing will mark a transition away from cloud computing and is the next major wave of computing.

Blockstack is the new decentralized internet.

With Blockstack, users control their data and apps run on their devices. There are no middlemen, no passwords, no massive data silos to breach, and no services tracking us around the internet.

Data storage is simple and reliable and uses existing cloud infrastructure. Users can connect with their existing AWS S3, or similar cloud storage and the data will then be synced from their local device up to their cloud.

Decentralized apps are a new type of software program designed to exist on the Internet in a way that is not controlled by any single entity. Where bitcoin is a decentralized value exchange, a decentralized application aims to achieve functionality beyond transactions that exchange value.Decentralized apps potentially represent the next generation of computing. In a completely decentralized world all things occur using peer-to-peer networks and the idea of centralized entities are non-existent. This distributed future is still being designed and built but the early stages of development are looking promising.

This is a session on Decentralized application that was developed on blockstack, keeping decentralized social networking as a real world use case.

X Topic Abstract

One has seen a lot of technical progress in Smart Contracts and Blockchain - privacy, speed, turing complete programming languages and so on. The business use cases found suitable for blockhain/Smart contracts are expansive covering all sectors from agriculture to finance to media. But the technology still hasn't matured in a way that makes it easily consumable by the industry in a big way. Despite a lot of investment, innovation and product development in this space they seem disconnected without the threshold maturity. In the next 45 mins we will review some of the challenges one would face in developing, integrating, deploying and managing production ready applications.

X Topic Abstract

How software development on Blockchains is fundamentally different from traditional software development?

Smart contracts on blockchain have paved way for a new class of solutions. Unlike traditional software systems, these applications are decentralized (Dapps). This property of DApps calls for change in conventional software design approach to truly realize their potential since many of the conventional design patterns aren't applicable. This talk will cover three key aspects critical to smart contracts & dapps:

Trust & Security Architecture : Smart contracts are immutable : once deployed on the blockchain, they cannot be changed. One implication of this is that utmost care must be taken to make the code base secure. Emerging paradigms also allow for up-gradable contracts but this requires that the trust architecture is carefully designed.

Efficiency : Blockchains achieve decentralization using replication. This leads to redundancy - for developers this means that care must be taken to make smart contracts more efficient as there is cost involved for every transaction

User Experience : DApps have to also take into consideration ease of use for users unfamiliar with this new technology. There is a tradeoff required in terms of hiding the underlying complexity of blockchains while ensuring that the trust architecture achieved by technology is communicated to the user so that they implicitly trust the solution.

One of the key requirements of Organic Farming is to ensure that there is no chemical fertilizer that is used. We are working on an application that would provide a farmer to track his activities on a blockchain so as to ensure end to end traceability of the process that has been followed from the day the seeds were bought all the way till the produce reaches the store. We will enable QR Codes for the consumers to check based on what they see on the product.
