Overview of the event

The 3rd Blockchain Technology Conference 2018 will be happening on October 19th 2018 Melbourne. The Blockchain Conference 2018 will bring together a diverse range of experts who will discuss all the opportunities, challenges and exciting possibilities in innovation and disruption that can be leveraged in Los Angeles using this technology.

National banks and regulators, exchanges and investment banks across the world are taking seriously the financial innovation of distributed ledger or block chain technology. The block chain, aka Trust Machine underpins "crypto currencies" such as Bitcoin; but it goes beyond digital money. It provides a shared, trusted, public ledger that everyone can inspect, but no single user controls. It is at the cusp of revolutionising international money transfers, trade finance, syndicated lending and collateral management, among other applications. As it allows for almost instantaneous payments and settlement, the potential impact on the role of traders, quants and other financial technologists cannot be underestimated.

The event features an inspiring day of talks and workshops by professional speakers focused on Blockchain technology and Innovation.

This conference brings together Block Chain technologists in the finance sector, regulators, industry commentators, computer science researchers and others involved in financial innovation; these experts explore some of the technology and the many applications of Block chain in Financial Services.

X Topic Abstract

The world has gotten past Peak Hype in December, and we're starting to see some changes in the Blockchain industry.

* Regulations around the world are starting to take shape
* There are fewer shoddy ICOs today, we are seeing more professional teams, and often larger raises
* Token classifications are starting to standardise
* The industry is starting to converge on a number of key use cases for the next wave of technology

A Blockchain by itself is not enough, we need standards for Identity, distributed storage, asset registries, tokenised assets, interoperable wallets, multi-blockchain explorers and dashboards, distributed exchanges, smart contracts for automated liquidity and continuous issuance, not to mention architectures for parallel consensus and crypto accounting. In this talk, Anouk lays out the state of the Blockchain ecosystem, the key components being built and some of the 'inevitable landscape' up ahead.

The Technology Framework I will be presenting is a matrix of components and aspects of functionality. It is based on research performed by Intraverse Technologies in a project that has not been made public at this stage. Apart from classifying architectural layers and types of currencies together with hierarchical v. network models, I will also attempt to articulate a timeline for filling out some of the components, insofar as that is possible, and time permitting. Effectively the Framework classifies projects according to the necessary components of a Blockchain Ecosystem.

This talk will focus on understanding the NEM.io Foundation, creators of the peer-to-peer NEM blockchain platform and the XEM cryptocurrency, a smart asset blockchain platform ranked top 16 on by cryptocurrency market capitalisation. NEM's blockchain platform was designed and coded from the ground up for scale and speed. NEM’s permissioned private blockchain delivers industry-leading transaction rates for internal ledgers. And its revolutionary consensus mechanism and the Supernode program ensure that NEM’s open, public blockchain can grow without ever compromising throughput or stability. The talk will focus on use cases that are being developed on the NEM blockchain and how organisations can understand how NEM works alongside other blockchain platforms.

Across industries blockchain promises to tear down, and redefine the limits of what is possible- from creating ease of doing business to enabling frictionless transactions. The promise of blockchain is immense. Today, business leaders want to know how blockchain can drive bottomline gains and competitive advantage. How can businesses get started?

We recommend businesses define a business case and run a Proof of Concept (PoC) to underpin their technology investment decisions.

In this presentation we will walk through how to get started, including how to design a PoC. To demonstrate this we will use a case study and three specific business challenges. We’ll define the current-state scenarios and explore how specific characteristics of blockchain can solve these. We will look at the associated risks, business outcomes and benefits. This discussion is followed by what’s required to achieve the PoC including technical set-up, design requirements, project team, participating actors (supplier, customer etc) and capturing takeaways.

X Topic Abstract

Transactions in the real estate sector maintain a requirement for high levels of accountability, record keeping, trust and evidence of transfer. By employing blockchain technology, settlement and record keeping processes can be automated and form part of the transaction process itself. In turn, this improves operational efficiency and reduces both the amount of time and costs associated with asset transfer. In addition to the automation advantages, the blockchain ledger offers a secure and transparent representation of coin, token and asset ownership improving security while removing the possibility for fraudulent transactions and transfers.

X Topic Abstract

Right from Bitcoin, the vision of most of the blockchains has been to enable decentralised peer-to-peer payments. Since then there is this mad race where every business launching an ICO is trying to make its cryptocurrency transactional and achieve mass adoption.

However, while businesses doing an ICO may think that they are advancing the blockchain for masses by either inventing new “utility tokens” that power their platform, app or game, there is a general oversight when it comes to the fundamental principles of mass adoption.
