Overview of the event

The Blockchain Summit 2018 will be happening on October 24th, 2018 Toronto. The Blockchain Conference 2018 will bring together a diverse range of experts who will discuss all the opportunities, challenges and exciting possibilities in innovation and disruption that can be leveraged in Toronto using this technology.

National banks and regulators, exchanges and investment banks across the world are taking seriously the financial innovation of distributed ledger or block chain technology. The block chain, aka Trust Machine underpins "crypto currencies" such as Bitcoin; but it goes beyond digital money. It provides a shared, trusted, public ledger that everyone can inspect, but no single user controls. It is at the cusp of revolutionising international money transfers, trade finance, syndicated lending and collateral management, among other applications. As it allows for almost instantaneous payments and settlement, the potential impact on the role of traders, quants and other financial technologists cannot be underestimated.

The event features an inspiring day of talks and workshops by professional speakers focused on Blockchain technology and Innovation.

This conference brings together Block Chain technologists in the finance sector, regulators, industry commentators, computer science researchers and others involved in financial innovation; these experts explore some of the technology and the many applications of Block chain in Financial Services.

X Topic Abstract

Supply chain management can be challenging and costly, especially when dealing with inherent lack of trust. One of supply chain’s biggest problems is the paper trail generated by various stages in the chain. Not only is there a significant amount of paperwork generated but several key pieces can be tampered with or misplaced along the way. Like other industries, paperwork can be a large portion of operating costs and in the case of supply chain, as much as 1/5 of transportation costs.

The paper trail not only generates cost but also concerns over traceability. More and more items require some form of provenance when being purchased. Items such as diamonds, produce, and slavery free products require end to end knowledge of the supply chain. While some technologies attempt to solve these problems, blockchain can offer a more straightforward and transparent solution.

The properties in blockchain lend to being able to trust data and the order in which it occurs. Digitizing shipping paperwork is just one piece of the puzzle. Being able to verify the integrity of documents back to the point of origin is integral in providing provenance in goods while increasing trust and certainty in an otherwise uncertain environment.

How to mine various cryptocurrencies. What to do with crypto-coins once they've been mined, bought or earned. How to setup automated lending to earn interest through crypto-coins. How to margin trade high-risk, high-reward cryptocurrencies. How current banking and financial systems affect blockchain and crypto-exchanges. How and why we will likely transition to a blockchain-based resource based economy in the near future, given our trajectory from history, and the necessity to maintain balance and equality. Current applications of blockchain technology which I'm involved with, such as project Powrush at Autonomicity Games Inc. to produce a revolutionary game which employs its own cryptocurrency, and interconnects the game with our real economy.

Speaker Profile

I'm incredibly ambitious and when I set goals, I focus with determination to achieve them; while remaining flexible enough to pivot as necessary. I love studying all kinds of useful information and I enjoy practicing essential skills. Achieving dreams is my greatest addiction, and I've accomplished many already, including mastering the hardest video game in the world, Starcraft 2, which led me to compete at it professionally in (GSL) Korea's and (MLG) America's largest tournaments, as well as, the successful mining of millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies since discovering Bitcoin back in 2011 by employing Proof-of-Work mining on computers as well as ASICs, and Proof-of-Stake mining with phones as well as computers. I now lead a game development corporation called Autonomicity Games Inc. to produce an educational game called Powrush which employs its own cryptocurrency and blockchain, which allow us to reward the players as well as offer them a simple and lucrative gateway to become involved with the blockchain ecosystem. My mission statement as a citizen of Earth, is to propel humanity forward through a resource-based economy, so as to become globally efficient & constructive through global collaboration; while maintaining an environment which always stays healthy, comfortable and pleasant for all creatures to share together while thriving.

Travel is one of the biggest industries in the world with a global economic contribution of 7 trillion U.S. dollars in 2016. But the process of customer booking is based on the rules that were set more than 40 years ago. Even with the arrival of e-commerce, the standards didn't change to reflect the needs of a digital-era consumer. This is why you are having a badly designed experience with not many options to suit your needs when you travel.
Our Blockchain-based technology enables a faster and customizable ticketing and travel experience. We aim to help Airlines, Agencies, Hotel Wholesalers and travel product issuers alike to solve the Billing, Settlement, and Payment issues while removing the middle-man and completing BSP in real-time.

X Topic Abstract

Automotive OEMs, taxi companies and transit operators (such as TTC) are trying to find their place in the new world order of mobility, shaken up by the rise of "Mobility-as-a-Service" (think Uber, Lyft, Car2Go, Zip Car etc).

They are deploying their own siloed apps and, in the case of OEMs, acquiring or launching their own ridesharing services, making the consumer experience more and more fragmented.

Blockchain technologies can change that course. They are great at facilitating open, agile collaboration platforms. Velocia’s COO, Greg Boutin, will talk to their efforts building that open platform for mobility, while giving end users control of their mobility data.

Speaker Profile

David Winterstein is an experienced leader in the Mobility & Tech industry, responsible for growing Velocia’s partnerships among Mobility-as-a-Service providers. Velocia is an open network for integrated mobility, bringing consumers of mobility data (automotive OEMs, ride- and car-share, municipalities, insurance companies) and creators of that data (drivers, pedestrians, bikers, etc.) together in a decentralized manner.

Previously David was general manager of carpooling app, BlancRide, and strategic advisor to Nekso, a LATAM taxi-hailing application. Nekso was recently selected by taxi companies and unions in Mexico as their application of choice. David started his career at BMO, working for 9 years across HR Strategy and Commercial and Corporate Banking. David earned his Executive MBA from Kellogg NorthWestern University.

X Topic Abstract

If you've ever experienced the implementation of a new software in medium - large enterprises, you are familiar with the time and effort it takes to successfully migrate roles and business functions. These jobs typically involve a significant effort in studying the current business processes and comparing to the industry best practices, while looking for an internal champion to ensure adoption occurs from the executive level down to the end user. The challenge here is amplified when the implementation involves an emerging technology - something that completely changes the way consumers approach problems and interact with information. Adopting blockchain technologies in business brings all the challenges associated with typical information system upgrades, but also introduces the challenge of educating stakeholders on what the technology means for the industry as a whole. In this talk, we will explore some of the roadblocks associated with such an implementation and provide high-level steps to ensure the successful, organization-wide adoption of this revolutionary new technology.

X Topic Abstract

Today's crypto exchanges are mainly centralized, their strength is high performance and good user experience, however, they are deviating from the decentralization principle of blockchain.

The challenges are: they are dominated by a person or organization, high risk, and high cost on risk management

However, to build decentralized crypto exchange facing giant technical challenge, how to achieve high performance with decentralization features? how to increase liquidity?

Will introduce a new kind of decentralized crypto exchange that could resolve those problems.
